CHALLENGE: HaveYouMet is a revolutionary dating app that integrates a social AI mutual friend to help users find their perfect match, eliminating the fatigue of endless online chatting.
MY ROLE I lead all design efforts, from rebranding the company’s identity from logo, marketing materials, website, and pitch deck, to designing user flows and high-fidelity UI for the app. Collaborating with the CEO and team, I lead strategic and product roadmap decisions, oversee outsourced engineering, and guide the team on storytelling, messaging, and execution to ensure consistency and impact across all touchpoints.

Product Timeline

UI Visual Refresh
Challenge:
The previous UI lacked visual consistency and brand alignment, color usage didn’t help product stands out, spacing was uneven, and many interface elements felt unintuitive. Usability issues were common due to a lack of systematic design approach.

Solution
  • Introduced a more distinctive use of the brand’s purple to strengthen visual identity
  • Improved typographic hierarchy by selecting and applying a new typeface
  • Refined visual patterns across screens for a more cohesive and memorable experience
  • Elevated the app’s overall aesthetic while enhancing usability
  • Simplified interface navigation and improved scalability as the product grows

End-to-End Feature Design (0→1)
Challenge:
The original user journey lacked key endpoints. There was no way to finalize a date experience or offer post-date feedback, and no infrastructure for making real reservations. These gaps created friction and limited user trust.

Solution:
  • Built the Date Check-In experience to complete the date loop, introducing check-in prompts, no-show logic, feedback capture, and optional date extension
  • Enabled lightweight accountability and exit points for users in real-life scenarios without needing geotagging or heavy infrastructure
  • Designed the Yelp API integration flow to support reservation-based dating experiences, mapping out backend conditions, UI triggers, and business rules
  • Navigated product limitations and edge cases, collaborating with engineers to simplify backend constraints and avoid service dead ends
  • Demonstrated full-cycle product thinking, from strategy to flow mapping, logic definition, and high-fidelity UI design

Bug Fixing & UI Optimization
Challenge:
Due to outsourced development and template-based implementation, the initial UI suffered from inconsistent execution, poor responsiveness, and fragmented user experience. Many original designs were not properly adapted for different devices, and key backend and frontend logic created friction in usability.

Solution:
  • Ran usability testing to identify layout, flow, and logic gaps
  • Fixed inconsistent designs and improved visual alignment across screens
  • Optimized layouts for cross-device performance by implementing responsive design
  • Created and tracked a UX to-do list to ensure progressive refinement

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Challenge:Because the engineering team was outsourced and juggling multiple clients, delivery was often delayed or misaligned with expectations. The lack of continuity made it especially challenging to maintain execution quality.

Solution:
  • Wrote detailed annotations for seamless design-to-dev handoff
  • Participated in implementation QA and design reviews
  • Facilitated smooth integration between frontend and backend teams
  • Maintained visual and functional alignment across teams

Future Product RoadmapChallenge:
Following our soft launch and second-round fundraising, it became clear that we needed to reframe how we presented the product. We faced challenges in aligning our narrative with investor expectations, while also navigating a rapidly shifting competitive and technological landscape.

Solution:
  • Mapped evolving AI tech into actionable product ideas
  • Created roadmap concepts that align with company mission
  • Proposed enhancements rooted in user needs and feedback
  • Balanced innovation with practicality for near-future implementation
